Born and raised in Northern Quebec, Captain(Navy) Luc Tremblay enrolled in the Naval Reserve as an Ordinary Seaman in 1995 and commissioned as a
Naval Warfare Officer the following year. Upon completion of his naval officer training, he was posted to his first ship, HMCS MIRAMICHI in 1997. He has had numerous sea-going appointments in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Esquimalt, British Columbia.
In 2006, Captain(N) Tremblay went on exchange with the French Navy sailing in B.S.M Loire, a mine countermeasure command vessel. In between seagoing appointments, Captain(N) Tremblay had the opportunity to deploy as the Chief of Staff Coordinator for the United Nations mission in Haiti
(MINUSTAH) in 2010. Upon his return, he assumed command of HMCS KINGSTON and subsequently commanded HMCS SHAWINIGAN and HMCS
SUMMERSIDE.
Captain(Navy) Tremblay joined the Regular Force in 2012. In 2013, he was posted to Ottawa as the Executive Assistant to the Director General International Security Policy within the Assistant Deputy Minister (Policy) Group. Following a short stint as the Senior Staff Officer for Naval
Strategic Governance, he was posted as Occupation Management Section Head in November 2016. He was promoted to his current rank in 2019 and was appointed as the Canadian Defence Attaché to Iraq and Kuwait. He assumed the position of Director Naval Personnel in October 2020. In 2023, he was selected to attend the year-long National Security Program in Paris,
France and appointed as the Canadian Naval Attaché in Washington D.C in 2024.
Captain(Navy) Tremblay holds a Bachelor of Military Arts and Science from the Royal Military College of Canada and a Master in Conflict Analysis and Management from Royal Roads University. He is a graduate of the Joint Command and Staff Program at the Canadian Forces College, the Centre des Hautes Études Militaires and the Institut des Hautes Études de Défense
Nationale.
He is married to a very understanding and supportive spouse, and they have 2 children.
